15 MAY 2005 Pentecost Sunday
Updates from around the World

Up to early April, more than 150 countries and towns in the world have agreed to participate in this Global Day of Prayer.

Hong Kong
More than 120 churches/organizations have agreed to participate in the Global Day of Prayer. About 70% of the seats in Hong Kong Stadium and Hong Kong Coliseum have been booked. We will still keep on sharing this vision with the churches and congregations.

America
Dr. Robert Bakke, previous executive director of the Evangelical Free Church of America, is the organizer of the Global Day of Prayer in Northern America. The following are the updates from him:

1. Up to this moment, already 75 cities in America are organizing the Global Day of Prayer;

2. Ted Haggard, the president of National Association of Evangelicals, USA, said: "Prayer brings life and light, and it can sweep away the darkness. Global Day of Prayer provides a very precious chance, it brings the Christians all over the world to pray, worship and share together. I strongly suggest all the Christians to join, and I also hope that leaders of churches will teach more about the importance of unity of prayers. Indeed we don't have any reason for not participating in the Global Day of Prayer."

3. Rick Warren, the author of "Purpose-Driven Life", is going to promote the Global Day of Prayer to 140,000 pastors and leaders in his Ministry Toolbox. He will join Dr. Bakke along with many other church leaders to host the Global Day of Prayer in Dallas, which will be broadcasted on satellite.

4. Director of Prayer Evangelism from Southern Baptist Convention, through his website, is inviting the Southern Baptist Convention congregation to join the Global Day of Prayer.

5. In Dallas (AP), two of the nation's largest Christian mega churches consisting of 2 million members, The Potter's House and Prestonwood Baptist Church - one mostly Black, one mostly White - plan to get down on their knees and pray together and organize the Global Day of Prayer. Afterwards, they will continue to move the churches to have the 90 days of blessings so as to show the love of Christ. The senior pastor of the Prestonwood Baptist Church, Rev. Jack Graham, is the ex-president of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Fiji
The Prime Minister recently declared the 10 days leading to Pentecost as 10 days of fasting and prayer for the nation, and May 15 as a National Day of Prayer for Fiji.

Taiwan
Taipei has already secured a stadium and will participate.

India
14 cities are arranging to hold the Global Day of Prayer event with an expected attendance of around 5,000 to 200,000 Christians praying in each city. Altogether almost 500,000 Christians are expected to participate on that day.

South Africa
There are about 30 schools that have started the Boiler Room, which is a 24-7 prayer network. 25 additional towns will join the Global Day of Prayer this year.
